Wonderful pair of antique French folk art figures depicting a fisherman and fisherwoman, possibly from the Brittany region of France.
Both figures measure approximately 9" tall and feature beautifully sculpted and hand-painted faces, hands, and feet, believed to be made of terracotta or a similar ceramic material. They have rigid, cloth-covered bodies and are dressed in traditional regional costumes. Both carry baskets filled with seashells.
The figures appear to be antique and have survived in good condition considering their possible age. There is some paint wear to the sculpted parts, along with fading, discoloration, and general age-related wear to the clothing. Looks like the woman is missing one of her earrings.
The pair is being sold together.
